Angels in Adoption 2005 - Delaware

Selected by
Senator Joseph Biden, Jr.
Senator Thomas R. Carper
Representative Michael N. Castle

As Adoption Supervisor at Children and Families First, a social service agency, Merrijane Pierce has been committed to finding loving families for children for nearly 20 years. Ms. Pierce's social work practice has also been shaped by her personal experiences as a mother. She has raised four children, one of whom was adopted from Korea. Due to her firsthand knowledge of the profound impact of the separation from one's cultural roots, she has made herself consistentlly available to her families. She leads transracial adoption parent training sessions, presents informational classes for adoption parents, and recruits and educated the public at adoption fairs. Ms. Pierce, who had never been afraid of expressing her opinion about the well-being of a child, serves on the Interagency Committee on Adoption, which monitors Delaware's child protection system to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of Delaware's abused and neglected children. Ms. Pierce is truly an exceptional adoption worker who is wholeheartedly committed to finding permanent homes for Delaware's waiting children.
