Marisol Maury, who has been a foster parent for 10 years, embodies for us the true essence of an angel put on earth to nurture and guide children in need. Marisol's dedication and commitment to children come from an endless wellspring of care that extends not only to children placed in her home, but also to many of the foster care children within the YOU, Inc., Foster Care Program. Marisol's self-sacrificng to help her fellow foster parents with moral support and respite at a moment's notice illustrates her true sense of community and team work. When a Hispanic teen turned 15, it was Marisol to helped a foster parent understand the Hispanic tradition of "quincenera," or sweet 15th birthday celebration, and prepared all the favorite Hispanic food to ensure that the celebration for the foster child was a typical Spanish event. Other examples of Marisol's abundance of caring are her continued contact with the children who have been placed with her throughout the years and her current efforts to adopt a pair of siblings whom she has cared for since January 2004. Marisol's relationship with her three biological daughters, ages 19, 17, and 10, provides an ideal example of the recipe for positive active parenting. She combines a balance of care, praise, mutual respect, guidance, structure, and age-appropriate limits to all the children who she nurtures equally in her home.
