Judi Magee
Angels in Adoption 2005 - Idaho
Selected by Representative C.L. Butch OtterJudi Magee recently retired from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW) after a 34-year career dedicated to providing stability for children. Judi previously worked in the adodption field as a student intern in South Korea, where she observed services at the Crippled Children's Hospital and visited several orphanages to learn about their child care standards. She later escorted two children back to the United States to bring them together with their adoptive parents. It was through these experiences that Judi developed a passion and love for each child who is waiting for a family. Judi's work and contributions in the field of adoption are truly outstanding. Her knowledge has helped develop adoption preparation classes as well as one of Idaho's early adoption practice manuals. Judi's work during the 1980s enhanced child-specific recruitment efforts for those children waiting the longest for families. Judi was among the original organizers of the Treasure Valley Adoption Council, which seeks to promote adoption awareness, education, and positive adoption legislation. She now is serving as the Council's president, as she previously did from 1999 through 2001. Judi's co-workers and supervisors at IDHW cite her skill, experience, and selfless example. They praise the role she has played in building Idaho's adoption program through "knowledge, compassion, service, and integrity." Judi Magee tryly is one of America's unsung heroes. For more than three decades now, she had dedicated her life to working quietly and relentlessly to make a profound difference in the lives of hundreds of children and their families. Judi's lifelong efforts are deserving of this distinction.
