For the past 20 years, John and Connie Looney of La Mirada, have opened their loving home to over 100 orphaned or abandoned chldren with serious health conditions. After losing two terminally ill children, they adopted two children, Boisha in 1990 and Paige in 2004. The Looneys said that they fell in love with both children the moment they saw them. WIth the compassion and support of the Looneys, Bonisha has thrived and will be attending college this year, with plans of being a social worker in the future. Paige suffered from a skeleton deformity and heart problems. Paige has had five open-heart surgeries and her legs amputated. Despite these events, Paige has blossomed into an outgoing and athletic child. Paige ran in the San Diego Triathlon Challenge and was named the poster child for the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's "999 for Kids" program that raises money for physically and mentally challenged children. Paige's case manager attributes Paige's bright spirit to the couple's love and attention.
