Melody Jamieson

Angels in Adoption 2005 - Alaska

Selected by Senator Lisa Murkowski

For the past 34 years, Melody Jamieson has assisted adopting families through both public and private agencies. An Alaska Licensed Bachelor of Social Work, Melody has been with the Fairbanks Counseling & Adoption (FCA) since 1979. FCA is known for its expertise and expeditiousness in adoption processes; Melody is primarily responsible for this reputation. Melody specializes in all aspects of adoption: prospective parent home studies, placement of infants, and extensive follow-up counseling with both the adoptive and birth parents. She has extensive knowledge of and experience in adoption exchanges, interstate placements, international adoption agencies, and adoption legislation. She has worked with the rural Alaska Native population for years under the guidelines of the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978, and supervises the Adoption and Pregnancy Departments at FCA. She provides training in adoptive and guardianship homestudy writing, and consultation for issues and concerns that arise during the process. FCA's lack of adoption disruptions further demonstrates the expertise and thorough preparation and post-placement support Melody provides. The impressive quality of Melody's work is demonstrated by the many accolades she consistently receives from the families she has served. Melody is described as "the best," "exceptional," "knowledgeable and thorough." Hundreds of pictures of infants and children are displayed on her office walls, all of whom Melody united with their chosen parents. In fact, adoptive and birth parents continue to send pictures and stay in contact with Melody. FCA is truly blessed to have Melody on its staff.
