For the Children - SOS was organized when the Romanian government permanenty suspended all intercountry adoptions, including those already in progress. More than 2,000 abandoned Romanian children, with designated international parents, were left in limbo. They allowed only biological grandparents to adopt the children. For the Children - SOS's goal is to complete all the adoptions that were pending at the time the legislation was signed, and for humane revisions of current laws to allow intercountry adoption. For the Children - SOS is a grass roots advocacy group of would-be adoptive parents and concerned individuals who are working to ensure Romania's abandoned children have the opportunity for international adoption.
