Lin Sue Cooney
Angels in Adoption 2005 - Arizona
Selected by Representative John ShadeggChinese tradition says that each of us are connected by a red thread to those we are destined to know in life. One of those threads has connected Lin Sue Cooney with 3-year old Fu Wei Wen. Fu lived in an orphanage in a little village in China after being abandoned when he was 5 days old. Because he was missing his right forearm, he was passed over for adoption. Then Lin Sue Cooney discovered him. Part of Fu Wei Wen's story and this special adoption can be told just by the name he was given long before he was discovered by Lin Sue. Fu signifies good luck, Wei signifies "destined to be great," and Wen, strikingly, means "wished to someone in the news." Lin Sue is a news anchor in Phoenix. The more Lin Sue and her family learned about this special boy, the more the family fell in love with him. Lin Sue and her family traveled to the home of her ancestors to bring Fu Wei Wen home to Arizona. It is with great pride that I select Lin Sue Cooney as an Angel in Adoption for making Fu Wei Wen the newest member of a family of caring, loving parents, an older brother and sister, and a brother his own age to grow up with. She is a true Angel in Adoption whose red thread crossed continents to bring her together with her adopted son.
