Colorado Adoption Center
Angels in Adopton 2005 - Colorado
Selected by Representative Marilyn MusgraveWhen Julie Haralson started the Colorado Adoption Center in 1984, she was not sure what impact her organization would have on Colorado. Nor did she know what the next 20 years would have in store. Twenty years later, in August 2004, the Colorado Adoption Center completed its 500th adoption. This interstate, transracial, and international adoption center provides birth parents with counseling and assists in the legal relinquishment of child custody. All of these services are provided free of charge. The adoption center recruits, educates, and counsels families wishing to adopt infants and older children. After placement, the center provides post-placement supervision and counseling, and continues to work with the families and the local judiciaries to legalize the adoption. Colorado Adoption Center has affected countless lives. Here is one reflection of a girl adopted through the Colorado Adoption Center: "I thank God every day for my adoption. I am so happy that I don't have to live in one of those lonely homes. I got adopted on August 11, 2004. I am very happy with my new family. Thank you, Julie, for everything you and Jody have done to make it happen." The Colorado Adoption Center has an exciting future ahead. With 14 adoptions occurring in 2004, it is exciting to see the growth that has taken place in their organization's effectiveness.
