Curtis and Sharon Burton
Angels in Adoption 2005 - Virginia
Selected by Representative Jo Ann DavisCurtis and Sharon Burton reside in Newtown, Virginia, where Curtis is a farmer and Sharon is a school teacher. Around 10 years ago, Curtis and Sharon signed up with social services to help as foster care parents. Almost immediately after signing up, they became foster parents of their first child. They soon adopted this child and began their family. A few years later, Sharon received a phone call from social services informing her and her husband that there was a family of three siblings that needed a home. Sharon immediately headed out to the field where Curtis was at work and told him about the situation. When Curtis heard that they were offered to take one, two, or all three of the siblings, he did not even hesitate. He told Sharon that they would talke all three, since they both decided the children should not be separated. Sharon and Curtis then became parents to four adoptive children and continued to grow as a devoted family. The greatest thing about this couple is that they did not stop there. It did not take social services too long to give them another call. This time there was a set of twins that needed a home. The Burtons, once again, did not falter and brought home their two new children to join the family. This couple has shown so much love for their children and continue to work as tender, adopting parents to their children. Their heart is so apparent by the way they have made a home for these children. Not only do they have six children to take care of, but they also maintain two jobs, stay active in their church, and participate all around their community.
