Mary Britt
Angels in Adoption 2005 - Kansas
Selected by Senator Sam BrownbackAs a volunteer in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at her local hospital, Mary Britt met young Dante, a 3-month premature baby weighing just under three pounds. He suffered a stroke when he was just 2 weeks old. Mary went to the hospital daily and rocked him, ultimately taking him home as her foster child. He lived with her util she was finally able to adopt him at 2 1/2 years of age. In addition to caring for Dante's special needs, including his many doctor visits and surgeries, Mary is also a foster mother to other children. Since 2001, she has been a foster parent to 28 children, many with medical and special needs. She is currently a foster mother to a 5-week old and 6-month old and a 16-year old. May keeps photo albums for each child to take with them so that they will know how much they are loved. She continues to be a wonderful role model and educator to other foster parents in the area. Kansas is lucky to have Mary as a loving mother, foster parent, and role model, who at age 70 is a true Angel in Adoption (tm).
